Tibetan Meditation Center

October Schedule of Events

Regular Programs

Sundays
10am - 12noon

The Sunday morning discussion and meditation program has long been one of TMC’s most popular programs. Each week includes a discussion of a different aspect of the Dharma, followed by the Chenrezig or Green Tara meditation practice.

Mondays
6:00 – 8:00pm

On Monday evenings, Lama Gyaltsen leads Green Tara practice. Just hearing her name with devotion frees one from fear. Practicing her meditation and reciting her mantra dispels all obstacles.

Tuesdays
7:30-9:00 p.m.

Frederick Friends Meetinghouse, 723 N Market St, Frederick, MD

This community discussion group sponsored by TMC meets weekly to discuss ways in which we can meet today’s challenges with compassion and wisdom. Discussions center upon books, films and personal experiences that give insight into everyday life enhanced by Buddhist teachings and perspective. Parking and entrance are at the left of the Friends Meetinghouse building. You can just show up on any Tuesday or for more information contact Julie Blair, 301/432-8834 (email: blairjh4@aol.com).

Wednesdays
Jewel Ornament Class
7:00 – 9:00pm

The Jewel Ornament of Liberation is a classic text of Tibetan Buddhism that can form a good foundation for all further study. Khenpo Tsultrim will teach and lead lively discussions until we complete the text.

Thursdays
7:30 - 9pm

Shamata or calm abiding meditation provides the foundation for all other meditation practices. During these sessions, Dr. Sam provides detailed instructions, as needed, but more importantly provides an opportunity for practice.

Special Events

October 20 and 27

37 Bodhisattva Practices class

The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva , written by Ngolchu Thogme Rinpoche (1295-1369 CE), is one of Tibetan Buddhisms most popular texts. Its advice is timeless and its relevance universal. The text summarizes the Mahayana path with clear explanations of how one can overcome hindrances on the spiritual journey, respond to difficult situations constructively, and ultimately work solely for the benefit of others.

Suggested donation: $10 per session
