TMC was founded in 1982 by the Venerable Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen Rinpoche, Grand Abbot of the Drikung (also spelled "Drigung") Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism in Washington, D.C. Currently located in Frederick, Maryland, TMC is a growing community of ordained and lay practitioners dedicated to offering programs for people of all levels of experience.
We have a full weekly schedule of Dharma classes and various meditation practices, and a regular schedule of retreats and special programs. We are currently home to two wonderful lamas - Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin Rinpoche and Drupon Thinley Ningpo Rinpoche, with visits from other lamas of the Drikung lineage throughout the year.
TMC and Phuntsok Dargye Ling are located on Mt. Catoctin in Frederick, MD. Just down the road are beautiful lookout points and a camp ground in Gambrill State Park, just off Highway 40 - a perfect place for you to stay if you visit during the spring through fall camping season.
E-mail us to join our mailing list and receive regular updates on special programs. Be sure to include your regular mailing address and you will receive our quarterly newsletter, Dharma Wheel.
*The Tibetan Meditation Center in Frederick, MD invites you to welcome our new arrival: Khenpo Choephel. A welcome reception will be held at TMC this Sunday (November 4) at noon (after the regular services and class).
Khenpo has spent the last few years in Nepal. Before that, he was the umdze (chant leader) at Drigung Thil monastery. We are hoping to learn the litugical traditions of Drigung Thil from him and, thus, become even more closely aligned with them.
