Dear Sangha Members,
As His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche has requested, last year in Lumbini during
the Monkey Year Teachings, a committee was formed for the purpose of
researching and standardizing the rites and rituals of the Drikung Kagyu
Lineage. The committee is planning to consult with experts in Drikung
ritual across the Himalayan region. In light of the difficult traveling
conditions in that part of the world, and due to the advanced age of many of
these monks and lamas who will be meeting in Dehra Dun, India, the committee
is hoping to fly them to India, rather than arrange other transportation
options. Thus, many more expenses will be incurred than originally
expected.
Last year the committee, following the wishes of His Holiness, sent out a
request for financial support. To date, only one Western Dharma center -
the Drikung Kagyu Center in Chile - has responded to their request.
His Holiness believes this is a very important project. In the past, the
different regions in which the Drikung lineage has flourished have developed
regional strengths and weaknesses. If we are able to bring experts from
each corner of the Drikung world together, to compare, standardize, and
improve our traditions, it will be of great benefit, not just for Tibet and
India, but for the Drikung lineage across the entire globe. Hence, this is
a wonderful opportunity for centers as a community or for individuals to
contribute to this work. If we are able to successfully complete this
project, the merit we will gain from supporting this effort will remain as
long as the Buddha's teachings remain. Please make checks out in my name.
All donations will then be sent directly to His Holiness. The donor's
individual names and the names of the organizations will be passed on to His
Holiness, along with a receipt acknowledging the donation has been received.
I hope you will consider donating to this endeavor. I am praying for the
success of all your activities and efforts for the Dharma.
Yours,
Drupon Thinley Nyingpo
